SHORT BEACH, A WELCOMING COMMUNITY Claus Johnson came to Short Beach in 1876 and being a master carpenter and boat builder, the Johnson family were pioneers in the motor boat industry. The original Short Beach was renamed Johnsons Beach for the family. 204 Clark Avenue, on the market for sale, was the second house built on Johnsons Beach. Idlewild, a plaque displayed on the house of Johnsons with the date 1889, is a yellow colonial featuring a living room, dining room, kitchen with mostly new appliances, quartz countertops and built-ins and half bath. Hardwood floors run throughout the rooms on the first floor and on the second floor where there are 3 bedrooms and 1 bath with a walk up that is partially finished. The principal bedroom opens to a sitting room, both overlooking the beach and on a clear day the Sound to Long Island. Relaxing on the wrap around covered porch is exhilarating as you take in breathtaking views of Long Island Sound just steps away with its beach activities – sailing on the Sound, kayaking on Farm River, fishing, a perfect combination of sand, water and sun coupled with flower gardens abound along with a variety of beautiful birds, flying and nesting all along this shore. Come to Short Beach and go for a swim, or build a sandcastle or walk on the beach and let the wet sand squish between your toes, while watching a sailing regatta from the Yale Corinthian Sailing Club.
